Kanpur is going to get another achievement. The Azadnagar Roadways Depot here has been entrusted with the responsibility of making electric buses. These buses will first run between Kanpur and Lucknow in the state. Their fare has not been decided yet, but due to low expenses the fare is expected to remain low. Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has directed Kanpur to prepare a proposal for manufacturing electric buses for roadways. In the first phase, 50 buses will be made in Azadnagar depot.
In view of the threat of air pollution and rising prices of diesel, Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation is promoting the operation of electric buses. BS-VI model buses are already being manufactured in the workshop of Kanpur. Diesel is necessary for their operation, but oil prices are continuously increasing in the international market. To deal with this problem, there is emphasis on operating e-buses. E-buses are already running on city routes. Their charging stations are also built inside the depot. Now preparations for making electric buses for roadways have started. Roadways officials have selected Azadnagar depot. 50 buses will be made here. 18 e-buses will be handed over to Lucknow and Ayodhya.
